One of my favorite things is volunteering in my childrens’ classrooms. I love the chance to get to know their teachers, their classmates, and above all to see how they fit into their class. This year I had the opportunity to help with reading and art in my son’s second grade classroom, which gave me a unique opportunity to help the students create a one-of-a-kind keepsake for their teacher at the end of the school year.
In this little book each child’s signature was imposed on their photo using photo editing software. On the facing page they wrote a personal message to their teacher, and created an “apple” by drawing a stem and leaf on their own thumbprint. The students couldn’t wait to see the finished project – but kept the surprise beautifully for several weeks until it was time to present it to their teacher. The little 4×4″ book won’t take up much room on her shelf, but in this case the best things really do come in small packages!
